Flying From USA

Okay you have 4 options...

Option A:  Most conveniente (fastest-$$$$)

Direct (Non-stop) Flight ( LAX-MERIDA)

VivaAerobus offers weekly nonstop flights (typically on Sundays) between LAX → Mérida (MID) (approx ~4h 25m). This seasonal route has resumed in December/January and should become more regular in 2026.

One-Stop or Multi-Stop Flights
Most flights between LAX and Mérida (MID) involve one layover (sometimes two) in a connecting city. These are available daily or frequently through several major airlines

Option B:  Most Common- Our suggestion ($$$)

Option C:  Cheapest ($)

Tijuana-> Merida ( Non-stop)
Tijuana (TIJ) to Mérida (MID). The flight itself is usually about 4.5–5.5 hours nonstop, and it’s often the cheapest route, commonly $120–$140 round-trip. The plan: drive together with friends to the San Diego–Tijuana border, park the car in a secure parking lot on the U.S. side, then Uber or shuttle across the border directly to Tijuana Airport (TIJ) using the Cross Border Xpress (CBX). This works especially well for groups, keeps costs low, and avoids long layovers.

Option D:  Most adventurous - Long ($$)

Direct from LAX- Cancun and Train Maya to Merida

Fly LAX → Cancún (CUN) nonstop (about 4.5–5.5 hours in the air, depending on airline/winds), then take the Tren Maya from “Cancún Airport” station (Estación Aeropuerto Cancún).

The train route toward Mérida typically arrives at Mérida Teya station (the main Mérida-area stop), which is ~25–30 minutes by car/bus from central Mérida. Expect the train ride to be roughly ~3.5–4.5 hours depending on the specific service/stops that day.
