Get To Know Merida

Tour Mérida by "hopp on/off" buses:

There are also 2 comfortable ways to get to know the city

(in about 1-1/2 to 2 hours)

  • the red bus called Turibus that is very easy to spot because its a double decker and you can hop on on any of its many stops around the city
     

  • a local company Carnavalito City Tour bus that leaves from Santa Lucia Park (Calle 55 and 60) at 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm daily (no 7 pm trip on Sunday).

Enjoy a free outdoor “Vaquería” performance featuring traditional Yucatecan dress and dance at the Palacio Municipal, Main Plaza, at 9:00 PM.

Dance to 1940s big band music at Santiago Park (corner of Calle 59 & 72) at 8:30 PM

Cultural Excursions:
Watch the video mapping “Diálogos del Conquistador” at Casa Montejo, 8:00 PM.📍 Calle 63 between 62 & 60, Centro.

Thursday

Evening Performance:Free open-air folkloric concert with traditional Yucatecan music and dance at Santa Lucía Park (Calle 60 & 55) at 9:00 PM.

Friday 

Watch the video mapping “Piedras Sagradas” at the San Ildefonso Cathedral at 8:00 PM.📍 Calle 60 & 61, Centro.

Saturday

Noche Mexicana at the end of Paseo de Montejo & Calle 47, from 8:00 PM – midnight Pok Ta Pok, a traditional Maya ball game reenactment, at San Ildefonso Cathedral at 8:00 PM (free).

Must see around Merida 

Travel to the Maya: archaeological site of Chichén Itzá.

Archaeology & Beach Day:
Visit Dzibilchaltún, then continue to the beaches of Progreso, Chelem, Chicxulub, Telchac, or Xcambo.Don’t miss the local cooperative next to the church in Dzibilchaltún.

Visit Hacienda Teya on the way to Izamal, or Explore the Convent Route: Acanceh, Tecoh, Telchaquillo, Tekit, Mama, Chumayel, Maní, and Oxkutzcab.

Puuc Route Adventure: Explore Kabah, Labná, Sayil, Xlapak, and Uxmal. Optional stop at Hacienda Yaxcopoil.

LOCAL SHOPPING: Visit Pasaje Picheta or Casa de las Artesanías (Calle 63) — the best place for authentic Yucatecan handicrafts at fair prices.
